Orlando Science Grading Policies
Orlando Science sends weekly student report e-mails, quarterly student progress reports and quarterly student report cards. The dates of these reports are shared at the beginning of the school year in our weekly newsletters.
• Unweighted Grading Scale
The grading system and interpretation of letter grades will be as prescribed by state statute (s.1003.437(1-5), F.S.).
• Weighted Grading Scale
A weighted grading scale will be used to compute a grade point average when determining rank in class and will also be used to determine eligibility for an honors diploma per state statute (s.1003.437,F.S.). Grade values for the weighted scale are as follows:
• Courses Higher than Honors Level
Courses higher than honors level: Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Advanced International Certificate of Education and college or postsecondary technical Dual Enrollment 52 courses, will be weighted as follows: For students entering Grade 9, dual enrollment courses via postsecondary technical programs will be given the same weight as the courses described in this paragraph. Alternative grade calculation or weighting systems that discriminate against dual enrollment courses are prohibited. (s. 1007.271(16), F.S)
