National Public Lands Day (NPLD) 2010 celebrates service and recreation on public lands while educating volunteers about one of the City of Orlando's most unique parks - Bill Frederick Park @ Turkey Lake.

NPLD is the nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. In 2009, 150,000 volunteers built trails and bridges, removed trash and invasive plants, planted trees and restored our water resources.

National Public Lands Day (NPLD) 2010 celebrates service and recreation on public lands while educating volunteers about one of the City of Orlando's most unique parks - Bill Frederick Park @ Turkey Lake.

Over 100 bags were filled with invasive potato vines, 100 + bales of pine straw mulched the Butterfly garden, as well as the great camaraderie that was developed among strangers and friends alike. They said that the native trail and the Butterfly garden had never looked better! Students received free T-shirts and Volunteer Certificates for their effort!

Afterwards, the volunteer work group visited the Children's Farm and enjoyed the park's activities such as canoeing. It was a very fun day. We were glad to be part of such a volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. Thank you to our teachers Mr.Yalcin, Ms.Jensen and the students who participated in this great volunteer work!!
