High School Ying Expo: We are excited to share the Orlando Science Middle and High School qualifying results from the Dr. Nelson Ying Science and Engineering Exposition. Our students were phenomenally successful this year, receiving 36 place awards for 43 students participating.

In the high school, we had two first place winners from the 13 categories. Matthew B. is the recipient of the Intelligent Machines, Robotics and Systems Software category. Lisa P. excelled in the Chemistry category. Both students will compete at the state level in Lakeland March 24th – 26th.

Among the first place award winners in the senior division, Lisa P.’s project titled “Making Energy from Vibrations and Mechanical Forces” stood out to the judges as the BEST IN THE FAIR! Lisa is one of four students from Orange County who will receive an all-expense paid trip to the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair, May 10-15, 2020 in Anaheim, California where they will compete and represent the Dr. Nelson Ying Orange County Science Exposition and the State of Florida. As a Senior Ying Scholar Grand Prize Winner, Lisa Pham also received a special plaque and a $1,000 cash award.

Middle School:  OSS’s 10th Annual School Science Fair was a great success! About 60 projects in 13 different categories from 6th and 7th grade were displayed. Judges were very impressed with the quality of the projects and how great of a job students did explaining their findings. It was a STEM filled experience for all participants!

Congratulations to the following students for placing in their categories and advancing to the county level! They will be representing Orlando Science Schools at the Ying Expo on February 13th. We are so very proud of our ORCAs!
